KeyBank announced the largest charitable gift the organization has made in the Rochester area. The $450,000 grant from the KeyBank Foundation is establishing the KeyBank Nursing Scholarship to support Rochester Regional Health employees who want to pursue careers in nursing.

Through the scholarship, Rochester Regional Health employees who work in non-licensed support positions – including patient care technician, patient transporter, food service assistant and housekeeper – have an affordable path to pursue licensed practical nurse (LPN) certification with the organization’s Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing. Recipients of the scholarship will receive tuition assistance and a stipend for 20 hours-per-week of work salary while they are enrolled in the program. This grant will fund the scholarship for three years.

“This workforce development initiative by Rochester Regional Health is having a transformative effect on local health care and providing people here with opportunities to flourish personally and professionally,” said James Barger, KeyBank Rochester Market President. “All of us at KeyBank are happy to support this initiative with the largest grant we’ve ever made in Rochester. We look forward to hearing the many stories of success that will continue to emerge from Rochester Regional Health as this program grows.”

The LPN certification is a desirable qualification that leads to fulfilling, gainful employment. Additionally, training LPNs fulfills a significant local healthcare need: demand for LPNs is expected to grow roughly 15 percent throughout the region in coming years. It’s the first step on the nursing career ladder that, with additional education, can lead to positions such as registered nurse (RN) and nurse practitioner (NP).

“We could not be more grateful to our friends at KeyBank for their generous support,” remarked Deborah Stamps, Rochester Regional Health Vice President of Quality, Safety & Innovation. “This is a gift that will alter the life trajectory of these future nurses and their families. In addition, for decades to come, thousands of people will receive care from these talented, compassionate and dedicated individuals. It’s a gift that will be felt for generations.”

The Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing is also open to community members who want to pursue a career in nursing. To learn more about this program, call (585) 922-1400 or visit
