In masonry construction, the cornerstone is traditionally the first stone placed. Being the first, all other stones in the structure’s foundation are placed according to its position. Rochester Regional Health now has its own "cornerstone,” and it’s helping to build the foundation for the system’s fundraising efforts.
Established in 2016, the Cornerstone Society is Rochester Regional Health’s leadership annual giving society. Its charter members—more than 190 system employees and friends—are serving as exemplars in giving back through gift commitments each year for three consecutive years.
On September 13, Cornerstone’s charter members commemorated the society’s founding and celebrated the momentum it is helping to create for the Because Care Matters Campaign. Together, members have committed more than $1.5 million toward a $30 million Annual Fund goal for the Campaign.
“Annual giving is the lifeblood of our hospitals,” said Michele Grazulis, president of Rochester Regional Health Foundations. “These funds are critical to the delivery of patient-centered care because they provide our care leaders with the ability to address immediate, and sometimes unexpected, needs. So, the growth and vitality of the Cornerstone Society is essential to the growth and vitality of our health system.”
Unrestricted gifts also provide system leaders with the flexibility to explore opportunities, such as purchasing cutting-edge technology or funding a pilot program.
“These gifts often make an immediate difference in the lives of the people seeking our care,” Grazulis said. “And that, to me, is the everlasting impact members have on Rochester Regional Health.”
