Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care

A Critical Care Center,
at a Critical Time

Possibilities become reality when technology and spaces match expertise.

Like so many of our region’s hospitals, Rochester General Hospital was built for the medical needs of a simpler time. But the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care allows us to look beyond today and plan for how we can stay at the forefront of medical care, regardless of what the next crisis brings.

When you donate in support of the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care, we won’t have to imagine what is possible. We’ll be able to experience it. And all of it will gradually extend from our hospital to Rochester Regional’s other four hospitals setting a system-wide standard of excellence.

This is a crucial project for our long-term success; it is a complete overhaul of the entire hospital and will set the stage for other major projects across the entire system.

Unveiling the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Cere

A key element in improving more people’s lives is increasing access to our care. When you invest in the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care, you’re investing in what truly matters – a mothers first moments with her baby, a safe and peaceful atmosphere to help a cancer patient heal, an opportunity for family members to be a part of the care their loved ones receive.

A Special Space for Growing Families

Mothers and their babies deserve a homelike experience that’s safe for them both. And we want to give our skilled team of obstetricians, neonatologists, pediatricians and nurse-midwives the most modern care environment that allows them to deliver highly specialized care as easily as routine care. It’s for these reasons that we are creating 20 private post-partum suites and 14 private rooms in the adjacent Rochester General Hospital Association Twig Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Advancing Cancer Care

At the Lipson Cancer Institute, we've always provided our patients with the best cancer care from the region's top experts. And while we've always led the way on using the latest technologies, our new Peter and Caroline Pluta Family Oncology Unit in the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care gives us even more tools to provide exceptional care in a way that is most comfortable for our patients.

State-of-the-Art Operating Suites

Exceptional care providers require exceptional spaces. Our surgeons and nurses have been performing at an incredibly high level despite limited facilities. Now in our expansive William B. Mendick Surgical Suite, they have 20 new multi-disciplinary operating rooms equipped with technology that matches and magnifies their skill level, and 28 private patient bays with extensive nurse support, allowing us to provide the highest level of care to more patients.

World Class Inpatient Care

We’re putting patients at the center of our universe with the addition of 108 private, acuity-adaptable rooms. These rooms allow for progressive and critical care in the same setting, resulting in better patient outcomes, greater efficiency, and a more comfortable and safer experience. Furthermore, every room on these floors will be private, and when the center is complete, so will every room in our hospital. This is what the best possible care looks like.

COVID-19 Impact

A gift to the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care is a gift in support of preparedness. It is a gift that recognizes another pandemic will come. And whether that pandemic comes next month, next year or in the next generation, the Center for Critical Care will be uniquely ready to serve our friends and neighbors.

Our Impact, Together

A key element in improving more people’s lives is increasing access to our care.

When you invest in the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care, you’re investing in what truly matters – a mothers first moments with her baby, a safe and peaceful atmosphere to help a cancer patient heal, an opportunity for family members to be a part of the care their loved ones receive. With your help, we can deliver better outcomes more often than ever before.

Together, we’ll not only raise the level of care we are able to provide, but enhance how that care is delivered and how it makes our patients and families feel.

“My parents set a wonderful philanthropic example and instilled in us the importance of giving back to support your community. It is a tradition that as a company and as individuals we continue to uphold and have woven into the fabric of our business.

I am honored to continue our family tradition to give time and resources to help improve the access to and quality of healthcare in our community. But caring for the future health of our region is a shared responsibility. I am incredibly pleased to do our part to make this happen and hope our contribution inspires other community leaders to join Rochester Regional Health in this transformational effort.”
